I studied Communication at Mackenzie University, in São Paulo, Brazil, and I always wanted to work on TV. At least, it was my first thought.
I got an internship in TV in 2008, after having some newspaper, magazine, and PR experience, and studied professional voiceover, with my whole focus on TV roles.
However, I was wrong!
Earlier in my career I was attracted to online projects. During my breaks on the weekends of working on TV, I was constantly reading about digital nomad’s life and wondering about it.
In 2010, I started freelancing as a copywriter to make extra money and the digital universe started to occupy a larger space in my life and make even more sense to me. At that time, I had my first contact with Unilever, the brand I have worked with the most until now in different projects.
In 2013, I had an opportunity to transition my career completely into the digital world. I received a proposal to manage the content of a new project about sustainability, led by a renowned Brazilian journalist.
At that point, I did not know anything about SEO. Despite this, we built everything from scratch with a tiny team plus freelancers. I consider this experience a game-changer in my career. Sponsored by Unilever, the project has achieved 2M page views in less than one year.
After two years, I continued working on online projects through agencies for major brands, while also freelancing from time to time.
In 2016, I quit my job at an agency to rethink my career path and travel. At that time, friends and previous work colleagues started to ask for my help in different projects, and it started to turn into a fun and consistent reality. Slowly, but consistently, fitting perfectly into my new way of life. Yes, I ended up becoming 100% self-employed organically.
What is fantastic is that I realised the digital nomad's life became a reality.
Choosing the projects I wanted to work with allowed me to be faithful to my top values. These include learning, respect (especially for my time and the time of others), financial independence, freedom, and family.
I lived in Canada and Italy, and passed through France, Hungary and Switzerland until deciding to live in London, in 2019.
From 2015, for 5 years, I was also maintaining a blog about specialty coffee and my experiences around the world in different coffee places, where I used to go as an office. My hobby and, of course, also a laboratory. Nowadays, I keep only the Instagram channel.
After more than 6 years working on 20+ short and long term projects in different markets and languages as self-employed, I've decided to accept a full-time position as Senior Author at Kantar UK, the company I was freelancing for since July 2021.
What's next? I will figure it out!
I was lucky and pleased to work with Fernanda to set up my digital sustainability platform. She contributed immensely to content production and business strategy. I validate her work and recommend her with my eyes closed!
